5 things to know about ‘Aadhaar for children’ :

1. Biometrics data will not be taken of children below 5 years of age as a child’s biometrics takes 5 years to develop completely.

2. Mother or father have to interlink their Aadhar with child’s Baal Aadhaar card.

3. Kids below 5 years of age get blue color Aadhaar called ‘Baal Aadhaar’.

4. Child’s school ID can be used as an identity proof for Aadhaar enrolment. Photo ID issued by recognized educational institution is taken.

There are not many documents required for applying for Aadhar card for kids.

Documents Required for Aadhar of children below 5 years of age:

Birth certificate of the kid.

Aadhaar details and Aadhaar card of any one of the parents

Original as well as photocopies of both documents.

Address proof of the child’s parents.

Documents Required for Aadhar of children between 5 to 15 years of age:

Birth certificate of the child and any one of the following as Identity Proof.

School identity card.

Bonafide certificate on the letterhead of the institution.

A parent’s Aadhaar card and Address proof of the child’s parents.

Identity certificate issued by the Gazetted Officer/Tehsildar on letterhead containing the photograph of the child.

Get Baal Aadhaar or card for a child below 5 years of Age.

1. Visit the Aadhar Enrollment centre and fill out the Aadhar enrolment form.

2. After that, you have to Attach a photocopy of kid’s birth certificate with the enrolment form.

3. Submit the form along with relevant documents to the Aadhar executive officer.

4. A photograph of child will be clicked and biometrics data will be recorded as the age of the child is below 5 years.

5. The child’s Aadhaar will be linked with parents Aadhar (UID). So, it is mandatory for parents to have an Aadhaar card.

6. Now, provide a mobile number that you wish to register with the blue coloured ‘Baal Aadhaar’ card.

7. After the confirmation, collect acknowledegment slip of your child’s Aadhar from Aadhaar enrollment officer.

8. Once the verification process is completed, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number.

Within 60 days of receiving this message, the ‘Baal Aadhaar’ or your kid’s Aadhar card will be posted to your registered address.

If you do not receive your Aadhar card even after 60 days of application, then you can check the application status online.

If the status shows the Aadhar is ready, you can also, download eAadhar card and take a print out.

Get Baal Aadhaar card for a child between 5 to 15 years of Age.

The process of enrolment is similar to that of adults

1. Visit nearby Aadhaar Enrollment center. Fill out the enrolment form.

2. Attach the copy of birth certificate and school’s identity card.

3. Submit the form along with relevant documents to the Aadhar executive officer.

4. The executive takes your kids’s biometrics and demographic data. (10 fingerprints, iris scan and photograph)

5. Once the verification process is completed, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number.

7. After that, Collect the acknowledgement slip from Aadhar executive.

8. The acknowledgement slip contains the enrolment ID that contains the enrolment number and time and date of the enrolment.

The enrolment ID can be used to check the status of Aadhaar.

Within 60 days of receiving this message, your kid’s Aadhar card will be posted to your registered address.

To check the status you have to go to the UIDAI website and use the enrollment number to see if you have been allotted an Aadhaar number.

In the acknowledgment slip, look for these 2 items on the top:

14-digit enrollment number and Date and time of enrollment.

Steps to Apply for Aadhaar Card for Kids/Children

Step 1: Visit an Aadhaar Enrollment Center

  1. Aadhaar for children must be applied for at an Aadhaar Enrollment Center. You cannot apply online or through the UIDAI portal for minors.

    • Note that the biometrics of children will need to be updated every few years (when the child turns 15, for example), as their biometrics may change as they grow.

Step 5: Receive Acknowledgment Slip

After the enrollment process, you will receive an Acknowledgment Slip containing the Enrolment ID. Keep this slip safe as it contains the unique enrollment number and can be used to track the status of your Aadhaar application.

Step 6: Aadhaar Processing and Dispatch

  1. The UIDAI will process the application, and once your child’s Aadhaar is ready, you will receive the Aadhaar card at the registered address.
