On 8 August 1942 at the All-India Congress Committee session in Bombay, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi launched the ‘Quit India’ movement. The next day, Gandhi, Nehru and many other leaders of the Indian National Congress were arrested by the British Government.

The Indian National Congress passed the Quit India Resolution on 8th August 1942 at the Bombay session of the Congress, during World War II. This session is also famously called the “Quit India Movement” launch session, and it was presided over by Mahatma Gandhi.

The resolution demanded an immediate end to British rule in India and called for mass civil disobedience. Following this, the British government arrested top Congress leaders, but the movement spread rapidly across the country.
