The passengers can purchase and recharge Smart Cards from ticket counters. The Smart Card has to be placed on a slot in the ATVM and user has to select the route and destination using the touch screen. After confirming the details ticket will be printed and delivered. Once the ticket is issued, charge will be automatically debited from the smart card. The interface and the enabling software include a graphic display of route maps as well as tri-lingual menu options. It is cashless, convenient and a service available round the clock.<\/footer>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Thinvent has developed rugged hardware and stable Linux based firmware behind the Automatic Ticket Vending Machines. Thinvent\u2019s ATVM Thin-clients are rugged computers developed with technology developed from the ground up to be usable in India.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These Thin-clients need to withstand heavy usage 24 hours a day, 365 days an year.<\/li>\n<li>The Thin-clients are expected to withstand dust, heat, user ignorance, lack of good power at some of the remotest locations across the country.<\/li>\n<li>Reliable and good quality printing is needed to counter counterfeiting.<\/li>\n<li>Machines need to be reliable and secure as public money is involved.<\/li>\n<li>Support Railways application and backend for ticketing.<\/li>\n<li>Supports Smart Card Reader, Touch Screen Calibration Utility<\/li>\n<li>Support for local languages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Present most of the Zonal Railways have deployed Thinvent\u2019s Thin-Client based ATVMs and made it operational in many vital stations having huge passenger traffic making travel cheaper and convenient for about 25 lakh people per day.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the latest on <strong>Indian Railways\u2019 deployment of Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs)<\/strong> \u2014 a move that\u2019s easing congestion, speeding up ticket issuance, and promoting digital ticketing \ud83d\ude89:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\ud83d\ude80 ATVM Rollout &amp; Expansion<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eastern Railway<\/strong> has already installed <strong>574 ATVMs<\/strong> across its divisions\u2014293 in Sealdah, 173 in Howrah, 76 in Asansol, and 33 in Malda. These machines support journey tickets, platform tickets, and season pass renewals, with multilingual touchscreens and cashless payments via smart cards and digital wallets. Customer facilitation agents help first\u2011time users.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Southern Railway<\/strong> installed <strong>99 ATVMs<\/strong> across six divisions as of late 2025, and planned to add <strong>254 more machines<\/strong> covering Chennai, Madurai, Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Salem, and Trichy divisions. Features include QR code UPI payments, smart card recharge, and bonus incentives.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>South Western Railway&#8217;s Hubballi division<\/strong>, <strong>25 new ATVMs<\/strong> were installed in May 2025 at stations like Hubballi, Belagavi, Ballari, and others. Retired railway employees were appointed as facilitators, and tiered discounts (3%, 2%, 1%) are offered on unreserved ticket fares based on distance traveled.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>East Central Railway (ECR)<\/strong> is preparing to set up ATVMs at <strong>702 stations across Bihar<\/strong> by March 2026. Over 100 machines are planned for the Danapur Division alone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\ud83d\udcca Usage and Impact<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Danapur division<\/strong> saw a <strong>25% surge in unreserved ticket sales<\/strong> in June 2025, following intensified ticket checks and the promotion of digital options like ATVMs and UTS app.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sonepur division<\/strong> leads in ATVM usage across ECR: stations like Muzaffarpur (3,960 daily sales), Hajipur, Khagaria, and others reported high daily ticket volumes.
