Indian Railways have now announced that it will accept soft copies of Aadhar and driving licence provided they are in your DigiLocker, a digital storage service operated by the government that enables Indian citizens to store certain official documents on cloud.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"entry-title\">Railways to accept Digital Aadhaar, Driving Licence as ID Proof from Govt\u2019s DigiLocker<\/h2>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Railway Board has sent a missive to all zonal Principal Chief Commercial Managers that these two identity proofs on such service will be accepted as valid proof of identity of a passenger.\u00a0\u201cIf a passenger shows Aadhaar or driving licence from the \u2018issued documents\u2019 section by logging into his DigiLocker account, the same should be considered as valid proof of identity,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>It has, however, clarified that the documents uploaded by the passenger himself that is the documents in the \u2018uploaded documents\u2019 section will not be considered as a valid proof of identity. As part of the\u00a0Narendra Modi\u00a0government\u2019s Digital India movement, DigiLocker can currently store digital driving licences and Aadhaar. Subscribers can also integrate their\u00a0PAN with DigiLocker.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"section-header\"><strong>About DigiLocker<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>DigiLocker<\/b>\u00a0is a \u201cdigital locker\u201d service operated by the\u00a0Government of India\u00a0that enables Indian citizens to store certain official documents on the cloud. The service is aimed towards reducing the need to carry physical documents, and is part of the government\u2019s\u00a0Digital India\u00a0initiative.\u00a0Targeted at the idea of paperless governance, DigiLocker is a platform for issuance and verification of documents &amp; certificates in a digital way, thus eliminating the use of physical documents. Indian citizens who sign up for a DigiLocker account get a dedicated cloud storage space that is linked to their Aadhaar (UIDAI) number.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"center-block img-responsive aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.reilsolar.com\/train\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/2023\/01\/How-it-works.jpg\" alt=\"About DigiLocker\" width=\"443\" height=\"230\" \/><\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0GB\u00a0of storage space is offered to users to store identification card issued by government agencies, education certificates,\u00a0PAN cards, driving license, vehicle ownership documents and some other documents.<\/p>\n<p>Users need to possess an\u00a0Aadhar card\u00a0to use DigiLocker. For sign-up, the Aadhar card number and the\u00a0one-time password\u00a0sent to the Aadhar-associated mobile number, need to be entered. For later log-ins, the user can set their own password or link the account to\u00a0Facebook\u00a0or\u00a0Google\u00a0logins.<\/p>\n<p>Organizations that are registered with Digital Locker can push electronic copies of documents and certificates (e.g. driving license, Voter ID, School certificates) directly into citizens lockers. Citizens can also upload scanned copies of their legacy documents in their accounts. These legacy documents can be electronically signed using the eSign facility.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"blue\"><strong>The platform has the following benefits:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Citizens can access their digital documents anytime, anywhere and share it online. This is convenient and time saving.<\/li>\n<li>It reduces the administrative overhead of Government departments by minimizing the use of paper.<\/li>\n<li>Digital Locker makes it easier to validate the authenticity of documents as they are issued directly by the registered issuers.<\/li>\n<li>Self-uploaded documents can be digitally signed using the eSign facility (which is similar to the process of self-attestation).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 class=\"blue\">The following are the key stakeholders in the DigiLocker system:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Issuer:<\/strong>\u00a0Entity issuing e-documents to individuals in a standard format and making them electronically available e.g. CBSE, Registrar Office, Income Tax department, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Requester:<\/strong>\u00a0Entity requesting secure access to a particular e-document stored within a repository (e.g. University, Passport Office, Regional Transport Office, etc.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Resident:<\/strong>\u00a0An individual who uses the Digital Locker service based on Aadhaar number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"blue\">The main technology components of the DigiLocker system are:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Repository:<\/strong>\u00a0Collection of e-documents that is exposed via standard APIs for secure, real-time access.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Access Gateway:<\/strong>\u00a0Secure online mechanism for requesters to access e-documents from various repositories in real-time using URI (Uniform Resource Indicator).<\/li>\n<li><strong>DigiLocker Portal:<\/strong>\u00a0Dedicated cloud based personal storage space, linked to each resident\u2019s Aadhaar for storing e-documents, or URIs of e-documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yes \u2014 as of <strong>July 6, 2018<\/strong>, the <strong>Ministry of Railways officially approved<\/strong> the acceptance of <strong>digital Aadhaar and digital Driving Licence<\/strong> presented via <strong>DigiLocker<\/strong> as valid <strong>ID proof for train travel<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\u2705 Key Highlights<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>When a passenger <strong>presents Aadhaar or Driving Licence from the &#8220;Issued Documents&#8221;
