Train Fare For Child Below 12 Years \u2013 New Rules From 01-05-2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

ONLY HALF OF ADULT FARE CHARGEABLE FOR CHILDREN BETWEEN 5 TO 12 YEARS IF BERTH IS NOT OPTED AT THE TIME OF RESERVATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is notified for the information of general public that Railways have decided , that in case , no berth is opted for the children of age of 5 years and under 12 years of age at the time of reservation , minimum distance for charge shall not be applicable. In such cases, o\u00adnly half of the applicable adult fare shall be charged. In other cases, minimum distance for charge provision shall continue as earlier. The Indian Railways has already implemented this decision since May 01 , 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here are the updated rules on train fares for children below 12 years<\/strong>, effective from April 21, 2025<\/strong>, as per the latest instructions from Indian Railways:<\/p>\n

Enhanced Child Fare Rules (Effective From April\u202f21,\u202f2025)<\/h2>\n

1. Children Under 5 Years<\/strong><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • Travel free of charge<\/strong>, with no separate berth or seat<\/strong> provided\u2014both in reserved and unreserved categories.<\/li>\n
  • If a berth or seat is explicitly requested<\/strong>, passengers must pay full adult fare<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    2. Children Aged 5 to Under 12 Years<\/strong><\/h3>\n
      \n
    • In reserved classes<\/strong> (e.g., sleeper, AC):\n
        \n
      • If no berth\/seat is requested<\/strong>, the child fare is set at 50% of the adult fare<\/strong> (subject to minimum distance conditions).<\/li>\n
      • If a separate berth\/seat is requested<\/strong>, full adult fare<\/strong> applies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • In unreserved classes<\/strong>:\n

        • Half fare<\/strong> continues to apply for children aged 5\u201312, regardless of berth, subject to minimum distance charges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          3. Children 12 Years & Above<\/strong><\/h3>\n

          • Considered as adult passengers<\/strong> and must pay full adult fare<\/strong>, with standard berth entitlement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
