Exam Structure &amp; Syllabus<\/h3>\n<h4>Pre-2025 Format:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The examination comprised <strong>three papers<\/strong>:\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Elementary Book-Keeping<\/strong> \u2014 covers principles of double-entry accounting, journalizing, ledger accounts, cash book, bank transactions, trial balance, trading and profit &amp; loss accounts, balance sheet, depreciation, reserves, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>General Rules &amp; Procedure<\/strong> \u2014 includes drafting a formal letter and assessing knowledge of office procedures within Railway Accounts, such as general practices across branches.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Optional Subject<\/strong> \u2014 chosen from branches like Establishment &amp; Provident Fund; Stores Accounts; General Expenditure; Workshop Accounts; Books &amp; Budget; Coaching\/Passenger\/Parcels; or Goods &amp; Statistics.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Passing Criteria<\/strong>: Minimum 40% per subject.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Updated Format (Effective 2025):<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Now a <strong>Computer-Based Test (CBT)<\/strong> conducted <strong>twice yearly<\/strong> by a <strong>nominated Zonal Railway<\/strong>, supervised by an Examination Conducting Agency (ECA) engaged via RRB.<\/li>\n<li>Includes <strong>two 100-mark objective papers only<\/strong>:\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Paper 1<\/strong>: Elementary Book-Keeping, plus <strong>English Comprehension &amp; Reasoning<\/strong> (newly added).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Paper 2<\/strong>: General Rules &amp; Procedure \u2014 covering traffic accounts, general expenditure, stores &amp; workshop, books &amp; budget, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The earlier <em>Optional Subject<\/em> paper has been <strong>eliminated<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>2. Eligibility &amp; Examination Attempts<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The examination is mandatory for promotion beyond Accounts Clerk to Accounts Assistant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Number of Attempts<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Generally allowed <strong>up to 5 attempts<\/strong>.
