Sub: Safety\/vital items with Unified PL numbers.<\/p>\n

The list of Safety items was first compiled in the year 1970 which was further reviewed in 1986 & 2000. The list of safety items was last reviewed, revised and issued on 06.03.2025. Subsequently, it was noticed that some items included in the list were vital items and not Safety items. Considering that there are differential purchase powers for safety item, it was decided that this issue be addressed at the time of next revision. Accordingly, RDSO was requested to segregate the items included in the list into Safety and Vital items. They had furnished the list indicating whether an item is a Safety item or Vital item and the same has been approved by the concerned Dtes. in Board\u2019s office. Besides above, attempt has been made to capture additional details including Unified PL No., drawing and descriptions for all the items proposed to be included in the revised Safety\/vital items list. Safety items are those items whose unavailability or malfunctioning affects safe train operations whereas Vital items are those items whose unavailability or malfunctioning affects train operations.<\/p>\n

The list of safety\/vital items with description, specification, drawing number and PL Nos. has been finalised and available on SMDMS and railnet address 10.1.1 0.21\/Stores.<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t locate an up-to-date list of safety and vital items along with their unified Price List (PL) numbers for the year 2025<\/strong>. However, here\u2019s what\u2019s currently available based on authoritative sources:<\/p>\n

  • The Indian Railway Board<\/strong>, via letter No. 99\/RS(IC)\/165\/SRC Pt. 1 dated 12 January 2025<\/strong>, released an updated “List of Safety \/ Vital Items with Unified PL Numbers”<\/strong>.
    \nThis list included comprehensive details for each item\u2014such as its unified PL number, description, specifications, drawing number, and classification\u2014approved by RDSO and integrated into systems like IREPS and iMMIS. A subsequent clarification on the same was issued in May 2025.<\/li>\n

    • Items were classified carefully between “safety”<\/strong> (critical for safe operations) and “vital”<\/strong> (critical for general train operations).<\/li>\n
    • Around 15 additional safety items<\/strong> (e.g., coupler components) were incorporated in bold within the 2025 annexure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • A Unified PL Number<\/strong> ensures consistency across all Zonal Railways and Production Units for the purposes of stock management, procurement, and asset tracking. The code is structured as:\n

        • Part B<\/strong>: Sub-group<\/li>\n
        • Part C<\/strong>: Serial Number within that subgroup<\/li>\n
        • Part D<\/strong>: Check Digit (validated via Modulus 11)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
