IRCTC Preparation of Reservation Charts New Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n

Second Reservation Charts to be issued 30 minutes before the scheduled train departure time, as was done before the lockdown<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ticket booking facility, both online and on PRS ticket counters, shall be available, before preparation of second chart<\/strong><\/p>\n

Indian Railways has decided to restore earlier system of preparation of second reservation charts w.e.f. 10.10.2025.<\/p>\n

As per established pre COVID period instructions, the first reservation chart was prepared at least 4 hours before scheduled departure of train. Thereafter, the available accommodation could be booked across PRS counters as well as through internet on first-come-first-serve basis till preparation of second reservation charts.<\/p>\n

Second reservation charts were prepared between 30 minutes to 5 minutes before scheduled\/rescheduled time of departure of trains. Cancellation of already booked tickets was also permitted during this period as per provisions of Refund Rules.<\/p>\n

Due to pandemic, instructions were issued to shift the time of preparation of second reservation chart to 2 hours before scheduled\/ rescheduled time of departure of trains.<\/p>\n

As per request of Zonal Railways for ensuring convenience of rail passengers, the matter has been examined and it has been decided that the second reservation chart shall be prepared at least 30 minutes before scheduled\/rescheduled time of departure of train.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, ticket booking facility, both online and on PRS ticket counters, shall be available, before preparation of second chart.<\/p>\n

CRIS has been issued necessary modifications in the software accordingly so as to restore this provision w.e.f. 10.10.2025.<\/p>\n

Here are the new IRCTC \/ Indian Railways rules for reservation chart preparation<\/strong> and related changes implemented in mid\u20112025:<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd52 1. Reservation Chart Timing Revised<\/strong><\/h2>\n
    \n
  • First reservation chart<\/strong> will now be prepared 8 hours before train departure<\/strong>.\n
      \n
    • For trains departing before 2\u202fPM<\/strong>, the chart is generated at 9\u202fPM the previous night<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • For others, at \u201cT\u20138\u202fhrs\u201d from departure.<\/li>\n
    • This is a shift from the prior system of generating the chart 4 hours before departure \u2014 the change provides passengers with earlier waitlist status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • The second (final) chart<\/strong> is prepared 30 to 5 minutes before departure<\/strong>, as per the standard practice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • Waitlisted passengers now receive status updates earlier<\/strong>, giving more time to make alternate travel plans if needed.<\/li>\n
      • Consistent chart timing across zones avoids confusion and standardizes booking cut-offs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \ud83d\udcf2 3. Modern Reservation System (PRS) Upgrade in Progress<\/strong><\/h2>\n
          \n
        • IR swapped to a high-capacity PRS platform by December 2025<\/strong>, built by CRIS.<\/li>\n
        • It will allow up to 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute<\/strong>, with multilingual UI<\/strong>, fare calendar view, coach\/seat preferences, and dedicated features for Divyangjan and patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          \ud83d\udd12 4. Tatkal (Emergency Booking) Reforms<\/strong><\/h2>\n

          Starting July 1, 2025<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

          • Only Aadhaar-linked IRCTC accounts<\/strong> can book Tatkal online or via app.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            From July 15, 2025<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

              \n
            • OTP-based Aadhaar authentication<\/strong> becomes mandatory \u2014 applies for Tatkal bookings via PRS counters and authorized agents as well. Agents are restricted from booking<\/strong>:\n

              • AC class tickets from 10:00\u201310:30\u202fAM<\/strong><\/li>\n
              • Non-AC class tickets from 11:00\u201311:30\u202fAM<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
              • This ensures genuine users get priority access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                \ud83d\udea8 5. Emergency Quota (EQ) Booking Deadlines<\/strong><\/h2>\n
                  \n
                • EQ requests must reach the Railway Board \/ EQ cell by the previous working day<\/em><\/strong> based on train departure time:\n
                    \n
                  • Trains departing 00:00\u201314:00 hrs<\/strong> \u2192 EQ request by noon (12:00 PM)<\/strong> day before.<\/li>\n
                  • Trains departing 14:01\u201323:59 hrs<\/strong> \u2192 request by 4:00\u202fPM<\/strong> previous day.<\/li>\n
                  • No same-day EQ requests allowed, even for official travel. Applies also to trains on Sundays\/holidays: requests must be submitted on the last working day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    • Effective July 1, 2025<\/strong>, fares for long-distance (>500\u202fkm)<\/strong> premier and special trains (Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, etc.) have been increased:\n

                      • Additional \u20b90.02 per km (AC classes)<\/strong><\/li>\n
                      • \u20b90.01 per km (non-AC reserved classes)<\/strong><\/li>\n
                      • Short-distance travel (<500\u202fkm) fares remain unchanged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                        • Boarding station changes<\/strong>: You can update the boarding point online up until chart preparation<\/strong>; after that, you risk seat reassignment by TTE.<\/li>\n
