These corridors are targeted to be completed in phases by December 2025. In addition, Ministry of Railways has decided to undertake Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for new Dedicated Freight corridors on the following routes :<\/p>\n<p>1. East Coast corridor- Kharagpur to Vijayawada<br \/>\n2. East-West Sub-corridor (i) \u2013 Bhusaval-Wardha-Nagpur-Rajkharswan-Kharagpur-Uluberia-Dankuni<br \/>\nEast-West Sub-corridor (ii) \u2013 Rajkharswan-Kalipahari-Andal<br \/>\n3. North \u2013 South sub-corridor \u2013 Vijayawada- Nagpur-Itarsi<\/p>\n<p>A Concession Agreement has been signed between Ministry of Railways (MOR) and Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) on 28th February 2014 which inter alia enjoins DFCCIL to allow authorized Railway users including Indian Railways to run their own trains on the DFC network.<\/p>\n<p>This press release is based on information given by the Minister of Railways and Commerce &amp; Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the current status (as of mid\u20112025) of the <strong>Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC)<\/strong> network managed by DFCCIL:<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\u2705 Current Operational Corridors<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>\ud83d\udd37 Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fully <strong>commissioned and operational since early 2024<\/strong>, covering the full length from <strong>Ludhiana to Dankuni<\/strong> (~1,337 km)<\/li>\n<li>Handles approximately <strong>209 trains per day<\/strong> averaging 20-ft coal and container movements in January 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>\ud83d\udd36 Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Length: ~<strong>1,506 km<\/strong> from Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), Navi Mumbai to Dadri in UP.<\/li>\n<li>As of mid\u20112024, <strong>93.2% complete<\/strong>; by mid\u20112025 physical work is ~<strong>96.4% done<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Operations already cover major sections, including <strong>Maharashtra\u2019s Umbergaon\u2013Saphale stretch<\/strong> since April 2025<\/li>\n<li>Remaining ~100 km stretch (Vaitarna\u2013JNPT) is on track for full commissioning by <strong>October\u2013December 2025<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Even before full commissioning, <strong>~182 trains\/day<\/strong> already run over WDFC\u2014a combined average of <strong>391 trains\/day<\/strong> across the two corridors in early 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\ud83d\udea7 Future Dedicated Corridors (Under DPR\/Planning)<\/h2>\n<p>Three additional corridors are currently in various planning stages:<\/p>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Corridor<\/th>\n<th>Route<\/th>\n<th>Status Summary<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>East\u2011Coast DFC<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Kharagpur (WB) \u2192 Vijayawada (AP)<\/td>\n<td>DPR completed; funding route approved; <strong>priority for sanction next<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>East\u2011West DFC<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Dankuni \u2192 Palghar<\/td>\n<td>DPR awaiting Railway Board sanction; planned via Odisha, Chhattisgarh, MP<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>North\u2011South DFC<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Itarsi (MP) \u2192 Vijayawada (AP)<\/td>\n<td>DPR submitted; awaiting sanction\/funding<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<ul>\n<li>Total estimated investment across future corridors: \u20b92\u202flakh crore ($25\u201330B), with interest shown by JICA and World Bank<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>\u2699\ufe0f Impact Highlights &amp; Developments<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Coal transit times halved<\/strong>: reduced from ~35 hours to ~20 hours via EDFC and WDFC for power plants in northern India<\/li>\n<li><strong>Logistics cost reduction<\/strong>: DFC network cut cargo logistics costs ~0.5%, boosting supply chain efficiency<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal<\/strong> at New Sanjali in Ahmedabad inaugurated July 2025\u2014DFCCIL\u2019s first private terminal.
