It,s time for the 10 best story games you can play in 2025. There are always more stories, more narratives to help us lose reality and escape to a new world. And the even better news is that 2025 has already been especially good for the best story video games. Here are the best narrative story games you can play in 2025.

1. A Plague Tale: Innocence

Let’s start as we mean to continue, with children being hunted by swarms of hungry rats and murderous soldiers. Okay, it’s not quite the happily ever after that you were probably looking for straight away. But A Plague Tale: Innocence is a beautiful heart-wrenching adventure. Here your task with keeping young Amicia and her little brother Hugo safe from harm as the pair make their way through plague-ridden 14th-century France. This is the story that’s crafted to pluck away your heartstrings as you protect the children and watch their relationship unfold.

2. Observation

From the outside looking in, games don’t have stories they’re just full of people shooting aliens. We know differently though and games like observation. You play as the AI of a spaceship, not even a person is exactly the kind of examples of the glorious potential of story-driven games. I’m not going to spoil the experience but observation is an uneasy experience. You only see through the fixed camera angle eyes of AI SAM. Is this AI a force for good or for evil or is it not as simple as that. Play and find out.

3. Life Is Strange 2

Life is Strange 2 has so far delivered another exceptional dive into a fresh young story. It was always going to be tricky to live up to that first season. But this new tale of brother Sean and Daniel Diaz as they run from tragic instant is another enthralling narrative. Giving characters time to shine and taking the time to tell a story that feels like you have a genuine impact. As ever choices are never easy, especially as the two brothers try and survive in the wilderness. Choosing ways to survive is constantly morally ambiguous. And it’s hard to know the right way to play that could be, and let’s just whisper it because there’s no correct way to get life right.

4. Mortal Kombat 11

Yes, we really include Mortal Kombat 11 in our list of best story games. If you’ve already played through the game campaign, there’s a chance you already know danger. It has time travel, gods, betrayal, romance, family, and of course lots and lots of fighting. Who cares of every disagreement resolved with a fight and half the moves would kill the characters. It’s a joy seeing Mortal Kombat characters you’ve grown playing. If you ever even had a passing interest in Mortal Kombat, you wait to yourself to experience the best story in any fighting game ever.

5. Heaven’s Vault

More archaeological adventure means stealing something priceless from a safe place. And then somehow being surprised when the temple turns into an instant deathtrap. So Heaven’s Vault comes as a spiked murder free nice surprise. Actively putting this story into history but that mankind hasn’t had a reasonably entertaining narrative so far. This puzzler follows Aliya and her robot friend Six on the journey across a unique world. This narrative is a joy as not only is the surface story intriguing enough but uncover the hidden languages and whole new history.

6. Metro Exodus

You’d think life would get a little easier when you’re no longer stuck in the post-apocalyptic subway tunnels. But Metro Exodus is what happens when you get above ground and it’s not particularly pleasant either. This new adventure for Artyom and his fellow survivors. Taking a train across the country, no matters where you stop there are horrifying mutants to tackle and much more. In sort, Metro Exodus is an enjoyable game but sometimes it’ll painful trip through the post-apocalypse.

7. Yakuza Kiwami 2

In a few years if all the Yakuza game is getting released on PC. Matt will insist that seven of the ten titles on this list. But until then you just have to make do with the second game. Yakuza Kiwami 2 cutscenes are remastered shoot for short. And you can seamlessly enter the building either by poking through the door or choking people through the windows. But we are here for the story. It says twisty convoluted and satisfying as you’d expect from a Yakuza game.

8. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy

The player takes the roles of various defense attorneys, including Phoenix Wright, his mentor Mia Fey, and his understudies Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes, and investigates cases and defends their clients in court; they find the truth by cross-examining witnesses and finding inconsistencies between the testimonies and the evidence they have collected. The cases all last a maximum of three days, with the judge determining the outcome based on the evidence presented by the defense attorney and the prosecutor.

9. The Hex

In a creaky old tavern, in a forgotten corner of the video-game universe, a storm is raging. The barkeep gets a patchy phone call. It’s hard to tell what the caller is saying, but this much is clear: someone in The Six Pint Inn is planning a murder. There are six patrons; all of them are video game protagonists trying to escape their past… But The Six Pint Inn has a way of bringing back old memories. Each flashback plays out in an entirely different genre, sometimes blending multiple. By exploring these memories you may discover the identity of the murderer… or you may learn much darker secrets.

10. Tick Tock: A Tale For Two

In Tick Tock: A Tale for Two you and your friend find yourself trapped in an eerie world created by the skillful clockmaker Amalie Ravn. Your mission is to escape! But to do so you need to navigate a mysterious, sinister clockwork world filled with secrets and cryptic puzzles.
To find the truth and ultimately escape this place, you must combine the information on both players’ screens. Prepare yourselves for a narrative adventure where your communication skills are put to the test. Shout out instructions, discuss what you see, and listen. But remember: time is ticking.

Here’s a curated list of the best story-driven games in 2025 across PC and consoles—featuring narrative masterpieces, fandom favorites, and upcoming epics:

🌟 Must-Play Released in Early/Mid‑2025

1.
